What are the Key Stage Two Tests?

If you have a child in year 6, at the end of Key Stage Two then they will take national curriculum tests in English grammar, punctuation and spelling, English reading and mathematics.

The grading system involves children's raw score – the actual number of marks they get – being translated into a scaled score, where a score of 100 means the child is working at the expected standard. A score below 100 indicates that the child needs more support, whereas a score of above 100 suggests the child is working at a higher level than expected for their age. The maximum score possible is 120, and the minimum is 80.

The tests help measure the progress pupils have made and identify if they need additional support in a certain area. The tests are also used to assess schools’ performance and to produce national performance data. Information from these test is then shared with the High School that they are going to, this means that progress can be maintained through this transition.

The Key Stage Two tests will be taken on set dates unless your child is absent, in which case they may be able to take them up to 5 school days afterwards.
